With the holidays over I can happily remember to post every once in awhile.
I finished reading ‘Holly’ a classic Jude Deveraux where all the main characters do is bone from beginning to end, which naturally made me laugh my ass off for 3/4s of the book. (The rest was lovey-dovey stuff that also makes me laugh but in a far more maniacal way.)
I moved on to Debbie Macomber’s ‘A Perfect Christmas’, which I thought would be an entire book, but turned out to be a couple hundred pages and then jumps to a new story. I didn’t read the one that followed that as I was so disappointed in the predictability of the first one. The lead girl is searching for the perfect life, then decides to go to a matchmaker who is one surly S.O.B.
Can you guess what happens?
Oh. Right, they fall in love with each other. I kind of felt like Debbie was writing to give people who don’t like reading something that they can read for Christmas that wouldn’t take up any thought whatsoever. I saw everything coming the second she left a ‘tiny’ clue. I know it’s a romance novel and by definition you know that the two lead characters will fall in love and live happily ever after.
But I thought there would be a little more depth to it than a cookie cutter romance.
It was mildly amusing, I’ll give her that. But I felt like she was treating me like I’m an idiot.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it. (Baddum-che.)
Anyway, I’ve moved on to read another Rick Riordan book ‘The Lost Hero’, which is a really good book. Definitely recommend it to anyone, but it’s aimed at teenage boys I assume.
Learning a lot about Roman Gods this time! Very exciting stuff!
I’ll let you know how it goes.
